Wolves Civic Hall came to us wanting a fresh look to their site, and that's what we gave them!

With an old site looking increasingly dated, Wolverhampton Civic Hall, one of the best local music venues in the West Midlands, wanted a fresh look to their site. Not long after joining the company, my involvement was at first developing the infrastructure for the new site in a dynamic engine. Shortly thereafter, co-developing with a completely inept colleague, the site was completed, striving to attain top level accessibility standards; indeed this was the first standards compliant site I developed.

Phase 1 of the site was developed in ASP, with an Access database backend. Within the next 9 months, we soon realised that Access simply wasn't sufficient for the level of functionality and access the site required; with 5,000 hits a day, we realised changes were required.

After identifying some design flaws in the engine system we used, I redeveloped the engine into a more robust and efficient MySQL database solution. Amendments were required and agreed upon for Phase 2 of the site, which took into account some functionality extensions and new sections required by the client, and Phase 2 work began in August 2006.

Working alone now having had the fat trimmed from the company, development went much better, with a much more robust and bug-free website resulting. Once again meeting UK government accessibility standards, Phase 2 is set to go live in November 2006, and then onwards to Phase 3!
