The Great Food Guide

Address: http://www.thegreatfoodguide.com
The Brief: A website to help people find restaurants, pubs and other places to eat, and also allow places to eat to get feedback on their service and food.
My involvement: Once again everything, from planning, design, development, all the way through to marketing and adding of content.
Features: User registration, reviews, adding places to eat, postcode locator, community features coming H2 2008.

One of my most successful sites to date, with information and reviews on over 4,000 places to eat.

During a holiday to Torquay in November, we found ourselves quite shocked at how empty some quality eating establishments were. Furthermore, we found ourselves struggling for decent places to eat on days out. The nugget of an idea formed; that was, to provide a website detailing good places to eat, facilities they provided, and so on.

The website was built upon this ideal; to provide details of places to eat, regardless of type - that is, they could be restaurants, pubs, fast food places or even a street sandwich cart, proving that you can get great food at a fantastic price. Many of the other sites currently dealing with this on the internet either limit themselves to one market (i.e. pub guide, restaurant guide), one area (eg London) or simply have poor information.

Covering all these areas was not easy, but manageable. The functionality for reviewing places, and putting detailed information, including location maps, is all in place, as is the ability to search for the nearest places to you by postcode. The next step is to add user integration and subscription features, such as emailing out new reviews in someones' local area, expected to go live in 2008.

The Great Food Guide is developed in ASP.Net 2.0 with a SQL Server 2005 backend.
