Caution Water

A sailing website chock full of content on how to sail, advanced techniques, racing tactics, rules, rigging guides and much more Caution Water fills several gaps in the online sailing community.

For a while, we've noticed a bit of a gap in the range of websites available to do with sailing - there seem to be plenty of sites around with news on sailing, and plenty of sites selling things, but not enough actually teaching it. We're not by any means suggesting a website could or should replace proper courses, but a website chock full of content on how to sail, advanced techniques, racing tactics, racing rules, how to rig particular dinghies, information on dinghy classes, tying all different types of knots would hugely benefit a large number of people - so we decided to do it!

Ably overseen by my qualified sailing instructor girlfriend, we set out creating a design that is visually eye catching, yet at the same time easy to update and flexible to future work (which will include extending the site to cover surfing, kayaking and other water sports).

As well as sailing articles, we also have an extensive database of dinghy and catamaran classes (with custom artwork), and a sailing club database, listing most UK and Ireland sailing clubs.

We're now currently working on building the content further, and reaching out and networking with the online sailing community. Later this year the site will be extended to include forums and user interaction.

Caution Water is developed in ASP.Net 2.0, with a SQL Server 2005 backend.
